Acne was founded in 1996 in Stockholm by four creative enthusiasts with a vision to create brands - for themselves and others. The unique name is an abbreviation of Ambition to Create Novel Expressions (ambition to create new expressions, Ed.)
Their skills varied widely, and thereby Acne became a creative collective housing Acne Films (commercials), Acne Creative (marketing agency), Acne Digital (production company, specializing in web), Acne Paper (magazine with content from all Acne departments) Acne Junior (toys) and none the least Acne Jeans (high fashion clothing for men and women). Last mentioned became known in Sweden in 1998 for their unisex jeans with a red thread - a revolutionary choice at that time. Later on the brand has been embrased internationally and is now sold in Paris, New York, Berlin, Hamburg, Vienna, Oslo and Copenhagen and at the Internet in selected online stores.
The style is predominantly Scandinavian with a touch of Japanese minimalism: clean and simple with raw elements and edgy details. To begin with ACNE was a brand of denim and youth culture, but it has developed into a ready-to-wear brand competing in the market for high-end and luxury goods.
The latest shot at the strain is Acne Miniature - high fashion clothes for children created from adult collections but with reservations and respect for the fact that children are children - with their shapes and everyday life.
